To Aniya and Closure: The book you are holding is written by Dr. Erikson, one of the most outstanding scholars I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. The descriptions of this great land in this book are not merely summaries of various materials and research reports, but writings that faithfully reflect the authors' experiences over years of travel; they offer a portrayal of the lives of people across Terra as seen through the eyes of a traveler living in this area. I have added a few notes to some sections, not to correct them, but merely to supplement them. Knowledge is, after all, a collection of perceptions formed as individuals come to understand themselves and the world. I have simply journeyed a bit longer than most. Before the world changes beyond recognition once again, people should decide for themselves how their stories will be told.
I dedicate this book to all those who've not yet had a book dedicated to them, and to my beloved wife, without whom those people would've still had a while to wait.
Though I should be intimately familiar with the contents of this book, when I first opened the completed version, lost long memories and emotions came flooding back to me. I recalled a vast grassland, with melting ice crystals falling from golden shrubs, wetting the fur of the creatures running below.
This was not the land's original form, but it was my first glimpse of it. Without a doubt, this scene has changed countless times over the ages. It cannot be precisely depicted in this book. Yet it is precisely these billions of fleeting moments of life's transformation, layered one upon another, that have shaped the Terra we see today. The world presses forward, endlessly. I was not, and will never be, the only witness to this journey , for the future that sails across this gentle land belongs to all of you.
